Lee Bowman has covered health and science from Washington for Scripps Howard News Service since 1992. He was previously an editor and Washington correspondent for The Pittsburgh Press. He got his start in journalism at age 16 with The News-Virginian in Waynesboro, Va.

Bowman's professional honors include awards from the American Association for the Advancement of Science , the Philip Meyer Journalism Award as part of a Scripps team investigating sudden unexplained infant deaths, the Roy H. Howard Award for investigative reporting and the Raymond Clapper Award for Washington-based reporting. He is a 1979 graduate of the University of Virginia.
