Peter Copeland is the editor and general manager of Scripps Howard News Service and the Washington bureau chief for the E.W. Scripps Company. Since 1917, the Washington bureau has covered the nation and the world for Scripps Howard newspapers and broadcast television stations and hundreds of media clients around the world.

Copeland began his career at the City News Bureau of Chicago, worked at the El Paso Herald-Post, was the Scripps Howard correspondent in Latin America based in Mexico City, and came to Washington in 1989. He covered the Pentagon, including the U.S. invasion of Panama, the first Gulf War and the intervention in Somalia, before becoming news editor, managing editor and then editor in 1999.
